Unfortunately, as per checking, the part is not compatible. The part number for the 1997 VW jetta is V462906, but without the motor. We do not carry the window motor for the front driver side however. This one you are referring to now fits the 2002 VW cabrio front driver side, window regulator with motor.

Still, you might need other parts such as a brake disc and pad kit (front and rear) or upgraded ceramic brake pads. when i received the part, it looked like it would not fit. I did not realize how much of the old motor AND gears would need to be used on the new items.
Once I figured that out, worked very well.Looks to be well constructed and it went in very easily.
A simple page of instruction would showing exactly which old parts are needed be a nice add
