The Jeep Wrangler is the ultimate 4x4. It can tackle terrains and conquer the harshest weather and the most extreme of road conditions. It was a descendant of the military Jeep that was used over 60 years ago to transport soldiers and supplies during World War II. Although this Jeep hasn’t been stripped of its ruggedness, it now has a more comfortable interior and more safety and convenience features than before. The new Wrangler is still tough, with off-road capabilities like no other. Its original tough guy look and distinct style haven’t lost their magic over time. The Wrangler, manufactured by American brand Chrysler under the Jeep marque, has come out with several generations of compact and mid-size 4WD off-road vehicles and SUVs.
The Jeep CJ was replaced by the Jeep YJ, which was sold and marketed as the Wrangler, in 1986. The new Jeep was designed to be more comfortable on paved roads, with a wider track, more comfort, and less ground clearance. The earlier model of the Jeep Wrangler was meant for daily drivers. Although it came with a new grille, the auto body resembles that of the CJ7. It also had a similar leaf spring suspension, much like the ones used in the CJ. The big difference, however, would be the wider springs used. With track bars and sway bars, the YJ offered better handling. Several variants and optional features were made available for the YJ over the years, from optional anti-lock brakes to the fuel-injected 180hp 4L AMC 242 variant. Several upgrades and redesigns were also done during its stint, which included an extended roll cage and full galvanized frame and body. The YJ was released up to the 1995 model year. The available trim levels for the North American YJ/Wrangler included the following: base, Laredo, Islander, Sport, Sahara, Renegade, and Rio Grande.
After the YJ, the TJ came as a 1997 model. This Wrangler was equipped with coil-spring suspension for improved ride quality and vehicle handling. It also brought back the original round headlamps of the CJ. This was equipped with the same engine found in the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, a 4L AMC 242 Straight-6 engine. Other engine options were also available for entry-level and other models. This version of the Wrangler had some facelifts and performance enhancements over the years.
For 2007, a completely redesigned Jeep Wrangler came out, along with a four-door model. The JK platform replaced the old TJ chassis. Compared to the old model, the JK is wider and has larger tires. The Wrangler JK first made an appearance at the 2006 North American International Auto Show.
There are six trim packages for Standard Wranglers and four trim packages for Unlimited Wranglers. For the 2009 model, standard Hill Start Assist (HSA), Trailer Sway Control (TSC), and ULEV II emissions were among the updates. The Rocky Mountain Edition was also launched. For the 2010 model, some cosmetic upgrades were done on the Wrangler. The Islander Edition and Mountain Edition also became available. Upgrades for the 2011 model include a redesigned interior, large rear windows, and new USB interface with Bluetooth audio streaming. The 70th Anniversary Edition for the Wrangler was also released. For the 2012 model, the Jeep Wrangler is powered by a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine. The more recent models of the Wrangler have a more stylish design and improved features on the outside and inside. The rugged 4x4 still retains its impressive performance.
With its unique rugged exterior and powerful off-road capabilities, your Jeep Wrangler makes driving on rough terrains so much fun. However, like other off-road vehicles, your Wrangler can incur damage from road debris and other harmful outside elements. Some of its parts could also wear out over time, which can affect your vehicle’s overall performance. Here at CarParts.com, we can help you fix your ride by providing you with high-quality Jeep Wrangler parts at competitive prices.
Many Jeep Wrangler owners have reported losing control over their ride after going over bumps or potholes in the road or when driving at high speeds. The problem is usually caused by either a faulty steering stabilizer or worn-out tie rods and ball joints. Some owners have also filed complaints about the wireless control module, which can prevent the driver from starting the engine.
Reports show that the Wrangler could also develop issues with the totally integrated power module or TIPM. Since the air conditioning system, radio, lights, and windshield wipers are controlled by the TIPM, this problem must be addressed as soon as possible. Some Jeep Wrangler owners have also experienced cracked manifolds, resulting in poor gas mileage and engine misfiring.
