Returns Policy : 30-Day Return PolicyWhen you drive through thick fog, your headlights are unable to do their job properly. It's because the water molecules in the fog cloud reflect light back at you when you turn on your headlights. Good thing you can count on your fog light. It reduces the glare produced by the fog cloud so that you can drive safely. Your Cadillac Escalade fog light is able to do this because it is angled downward toward the road. Although there is a common misconception that a fog light is a special lamp that cuts through fog, it basically is the same bulb as a headlight. It can have a regular bulb, a LED lamp, or an HID lamp. As such, it goes through the same problems as a headlight, or any other light bulb for that matter. Listed below are some common problems you might encounter or might have experienced with a fog light and how to diagnose and troubleshoot them properly:
Check if the lens is knocked out by visually inspecting the fog light assembly. The lens is not completely transparent and limits the amount of light coming from the fog light. It has cuts called fluting, which determine how light is deflected. If it is knocked out, the fog light would essentially become a spot light that has a completely clear lens or one that has no lens at all. This can be dangerous, as more light might be reflected back at you by the fog light when you are driving. The lens may also be broken, causing more light to escape from the fog light. In this case, there is no other solution but a replacement.
Tiny pits can develop on the surface of the lens, which affect the flow of light from the bulb to the road. These minor damages are caused by sand or road debris, and can cause the light coming from the fog light to come out a little weird. Consider replacing your lens. These pits and small cracks can actually turn into a bigger problem if the lens is not replaced immediately.
Your Cadillac Escalade fog light serves a very important purpose of letting you drive during foggy conditions. Although the light it gives off does not technically "cut through" fog, it is a very important safety component. A fog light gives off light that's cut off at the top. It is a low-mounted light that is aimed downward from bumper level. It does not project light upwards, which can be reflected back by water molecules in a fog cloud. Aside from keeping it turned off while driving on a road where there is no fog, here are a few more tips we have put together that will help you take better care of your fog light:
Inspect the lens for holes or cracks.
Because fog lights are placed in front of the vehicle, they are prone to taking severe damage from stones and other road elements. The lens-the covering that limits the amount of light that the bulb gives off-is usually made of lead crystal. Although this material is considered strong, there is a possibility that it might get damaged by flying rocks in high speeds. Because of this, regular inspection is necessary to see if there are holes or cracks in the lens. Moisture can seep in and damage the fog light bulb itself, which can translate to more expensive repairs.
Check for fog light wiring problems.
The bulb of a fog light assembly is the same bulb used in headlights, and it will encounter the normal problems encountered by normal, xenon, or HID bulbs. Check for wiring problems like exposed or damaged wires regularly, and don't wait until you notice that your fog light is blinking intermittently. Make sure the bulb is sitting snugly in the bulb socket. A replacement might be necessary if your fog light has reached the end of its service life, but it can be prolonged with simple tips like these.
Clean your fog lights regularly.
Moisture and dirt accumulated on the lens surface and along the edges of the fog light can damage the assembly over time. Make sure you wipe it regularly with a dry and clean cloth. This also prevents water molecules and dust from affecting the appearance of a fog light.
Due to the low placement of fog lights, it isn't surprising for debris to break the lenses. The location of the Cadillac Escalade fog lights can be changed by raising it higher from the ground. Just remember that fog lights are more effective the lower these are, so raising them might lessen the aid. If the lenses are always giving problems, replacement parts are readily available and easy to install, so these won't be a big inconvenience.
Upgraded HID Cadillac Escalade fog lights are usually offered in either 35 or 55 watts. The 55 watt bulbs are better mostly because these last longer compared to its 35 watt counterpart, and that these are brighter as well. As for the Kelvin measure, an acceptable range would be between 5000k up to 8000k. Anything beyond 8000k and the fog lights won't be safe and bright enough to be used.
The most recommended colors to use on fog lights are yellow, amber, or white. This can be achieved by installing Cadillac Escalade fog light bulbs of that color or by getting a white bulb covered by a colored lens. Fog lights should be used to help the driver see the road despite the difficulty of driving in foggy weather. The common notion is that whiter and brighter is better. However, it is believed that the interaction of yellow light with the misty and watery fog gives more visibility. White lights can be used if the Cadillac Escalade doesn't always drive through thick fog. To be on the safe side, use yellow lights.
