Three Things You Can Do to Maintain Your Ford F-350 Fender
With its tow/haul mode, best-in-class maximum towing capability, best-in-class engine horsepower, and many other features, the Ford F-350 is, no doubt, a very capable, well-equipped workhorse. But just because it is a certified beast doesn't mean it needs less of your attention. In fact, the more you use it for rugged and heavy-duty tasks, the more you have to maintain and take good care of it. When it comes to your Ford F-350 fender, here are some ways on how you can make it last long:
- Always wash your truck especially after serious off-roading.
To maintain the good looks and integrity of your F-350, and to keep its components away from corrosive elements, you have to keep it clean and wash it especially after off-roading or after passing over roads coated with road salt during winter. If you still don't have time to do a thorough car wash, then at least spare a few minutes hosing mud and filth off the fenders to prevent them from hardening and becoming a pain to remove.
- Don't overlook the inner fender wells.
When cleaning the fender, make sure you won't overlook the inner panel and fender wells because that's where most of the filth thrown out by the tires land. You can hose off the dirt using high pressure garden hose and spray with cleaner. Spread the cleaner on the wheel well using a sponge and allow it to penetrate on the dirt before scrubbing them off and rinsing.
- Deal with surface rust as soon as you can.
If your fender is made up of a material that's prone to rusting, you have to regularly check it for exposed metal where rust could start to build up. And if you notice rust formation, deal with it as soon as you can. Surface rust is easy to eliminate as you simply need to lightly sand it off. You can also scrape off rust using steel wool pad or wire brush. If you don't have commercial cleaner or rust remover at the moment, you can try combining one part lime juice and two parts salt and applying the paste to the rusted area. Then, scrub the rust off using the scrubbing pad. Clean the area with a damp paper towel. It's also wise to provide your fender with a rust-inhibiting wax or polish that's made especially for automobiles. This will protect the fender from rusting in the future.
