True bolt on system! 2014 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel
This system is definitely a true bolt on system with no modifications required to your vehicle. The included instructions are very clear and precise. If I was to add one thing to the instructions is the mention of using some type of lubricant to help ease attaching the intake tube and the rubber extension for the MAF cartridge. I used WD40 to apply a thin amount of lubrication on the inside circumference of the rubber extension that attaches to the MAF cartridge. I also applied a light film of WD40 on the outside circumference of the intake tube that attaches to the OEM intake boot. Doing this made it easy to slide/slip them on.
The kit utilizes the bottom half of the OEM air box as a secure mount platform. If there was any part of the install that was slightly difficult, it was having to reach to the back of the engine to connect the intake tube to the OEM intake boot. Being of small stature and feeling like I was a T-rex, this was the less than easy part of the install for me. Other than this, the install was extremely easy!
The rubber seal (as seen on the picture) that goes around the top of the air box kit sits firmly and is more so secured when the hood is closed. I, however, opted to buy the cover and it looks awesome with it on. Plus, I feel more confident with the cover over the rubber seal, since the cover is secured with screws. I do not have to worry about anything coming loose and falling inside the engine bay and possibly getting caught in any moving parts.
Aesthetic wise, this kit looks beautiful in the engine bay. Be it being the open top or with the cover. It has a nice wow factor to it.
Performance wise, I cannot say anything yet. At the writing of this review, I have just installed it a couple of hours ago and took it for a quick test drive. One thing that is definitely noticeable is the sound that emanates from the filter. At freeway speed I can hear the turbo as it inhales in the air. Mind you this is with the cover installed. After parking my truck, I took off the cover and started up the engine. The sound it makes as it inhales air is pretty awesome!
