Customer Guides

Vehicle owners like you are just so lucky because you won’t run out of add-ons that can be used to protect your ride. In fact, the list of accessories you can put on your vehicle’s front seems to be overwhelming—from grille guards to bumper covers to headlight protectors. But most of the time, what you fail to realize is that serious damage usually occurs in places hidden from your sight—the vehicle’s undercarriage. It is for such reason that skid plates are made.

However, with all the choices there is in the market, how will you know which skid plate will offer value for your money? We’re here to help you with that by telling you how the ARB skid plate performed in our 2011 Jeep JK Wrangler.

Features

  • Each unit is vehicle model specific
  • Comes with recessed mounting bolts and openings
  • Easy-to-remove panels for hassle-free vehicle servicing
  • Made from 3mm zinc-plated and powder-coated, laser cut steel
  • Press-formed and skillfully folded for maximum strength
  • By far the longest skid plate panel manufactured
  • Protects the entire engine oil pan on all sides
  • Protects other vital underbody components including steering, transmission, and transfer case
  • Bolts on securely to the vehicle’s chassis

Pros

  • We were impressed by the coverage of this skid plate. The entire oil pan was covered along with the many other components on the undercarriage.
  • It has been in our ride for several months now; we can’t even count how many time we’ve gone off-road with this skid plate installed. But we were surprised when we found out during inspection that besides having a few scratches and small dents, the skid plate is still intact and securely fitted in place.
  • At first we were worried that it might interfere with the operations of the front suspension, but thankfully, it didn’t. It simply carries out its task while allowing the front and rear suspension to travel up fully and do their job well.

Cons

  • During servicing, when the skid plate was removed and then re-fitted, we made sure to refit the fasteners to the right torque values—pretty much unlike some bolts that you simply need to tighten.
  • Its price may be a bit steep, so if you’re looking for the cheapest one in the market, this may not be the right product for you.

And we say…

This ARB skid plate is a great investment for off-roaders. It provides the vehicle’s undercarriage with utmost protection so that during off-roading, your focus will be on your adventure and experience and not much on your ride. It may not come cheap but you have to remember that you shouldn’t skimp, but rather spend more, on vehicle protection.
