Material : AcrylicA set of good-quality window visors for the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD can cost quite a bit, so it is only right that it is taken care of properly. Regular maintenance of these accessories will help keep them looking good for many years to come. Here are some great maintenance tips to consider for the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD window visor.
Washing the visors on a regular basis will not only keep them looking vibrant but also minimize scratches on the surface. You can use car shampoo or even dish soap diluted in water to clean the visors, provided that it does not contain ammonia or harsh chemicals. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and wipe dry.
Hazy, faded window visors are caused by UV rays from the sun reacting with the visors' surface, causing the latter to deteriorate. Thankfully, this hazy appearance can be greatly minimized by rubbing it with toothpaste as the same chemicals in it that keep teeth sparkling white also apply with the synthetic plastic of visors. Apply the toothpaste using a damp cloth, rub in a circular motion, and rinse. You can also use the same technique with fogged up headlights.
Window visors are effective in keeping flying insects out of the passenger cabin but at the cost of leaving unsightly bug stains. There are cleaning products available that designed specifically for such hard-to-remove stains, but we found WD-40 just as effective and a much cheaper alternative. Spray the WD-40 on the stained areas and leave it for 40 minutes before wiping dry. Make sure not to get any of the oil on the windows or side mirror as this can leave a noticeable film.
While most visors are made of heavy-duty plastic, they are not meant to support any amount of weight and will snap with sufficient pressure.
This may indicate that the adhesive backing of the visor has lost its hold, which will eventually cause the visor to sag, which in turn might block the window from closing fully or fall off the window completely.
A new window visor in your Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD will give you added protection against debris, flying insects, and rain while driving. And while most mechanics will be more than willing to install the window visors on your truck's windows, this accessory is simple and easy enough to install on your own. In this guide, we've listed down some key tips you can follow when installing Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD window visor:
Tip #1: Is the surface where the visor will be mounted on clean?
The adhesive backing of the visor will not adhere properly if the surface is covered with dust, dirt, and grime. A thorough washing with mild car shampoo mixed with water should remove any impurities from the surface, although we also recommend wiping the area with rubbing alcohol afterwards to remove any remaining grease and oil.
Tip #2: If there is residue left over from your old window visors, get rid of it using mineral oil.
These patches of old adhesive will also prevent the new adhesive from sticking properly, so make sure that they are completely removed as well. Make sure to use only soft cloth to apply the oil to avoid scratching or scraping the paint.
Tip #3: With the adhesive in place, apply light pressure on the visor.
This will help ensure that the adhesive fully contacts the surfaces of both the window and the visor. We recommend using a clean paint roller for this so that the pressure will be evenly applied across the backing.
Tip #4: Once the window visor is installed, leave the window up for at least 12 hours.
The pressure exerted by the glass onto the window visor should help strengthen the bond of the adhesive on both surfaces.
Tip #5: Does the window refuse to completely close with the visor in place? Check if the visor is tucked under the window correctly.
In most cases, the window visor may have been incorrectly aligned on the window edge and is blocking the window glass. But if the window is still experiencing resistance, sandwich the window with your hands and push upward until the glass panel completely closes.
