Timken bearings are legendary, and rightly so. That's why, when right front wheell bearing on my 2006 Audi A6 Quattro 3.2 went bad, I decided to order them instead of OEM bearings. In the meantime I decided to replace the front axles with some upgraded versions as well. In typical fashion, especially with nearly 100K on the clock, nothing went according to plan. By the time I had the opportunity to remove the old axles and gain access to the bearings, I discovered they were the wrong size.
Volkswagen/Audi has the nasty habit of making mid-year design changes and not telling anyone. I'm not willing to law the blame on AWP because (a) I have always been more than satisfied with their parts and prices, and (b) for all I know there was a design change or I simply ordered the wrong part. The bad part is that I am now well over the 30-day return period, so I am stuck with a set of bearings I don't need, AND I have to effectively re-do three-fourths of the job when I get the correct bearings,
I'm more aggravated with myself than anything else. The bearings look better than OEM, but I can't use them, and i can't exchange them. No one's fault but my own.
