Just because your Ford F-250 is a mighty workhorse doesn't mean its interior should be rugged, too. You see, after a hard day's work, the least you need is an uncomfortable interior that will just add up to your driver fatigue. One way you can keep your trucks' cabin comfy and isolated from the annoying outside elements like rain, snow, dust, and noise is to keep your Ford F-250 weatherstrip seal in perfect shape. This rubber strip acts as an efficient seal along the edges of the truck's windows, hood, doors, and other contraptions to prevent outside elements from finding their way into the cabin by passing through the gaps. If interior comfort is important to you, here are some of the things that you can do to maintain the efficiency of your Ford truck's weatherstrip seal:
The best way to uphold the efficiency of your weatherstrip is to keep it spick and span. Clean the weatherstripping at every car wash or after serious off-roading. Wash off dirt and contaminants by applying soapy water and gently scrubbing the rubber using a sponge. Eliminate the soap by wiping the weatherstripping with a clean towel that's soaked in water. Allow the weatherstripping to dry completely before conditioning it. Conditioning is done by applying generous amount of rubber protectant or silicone spray into the weatherstrip and allowing it to penetrate well into the rubber.
If you reside in a place where winter is usually characterized by snow, it is always wise to winterize the weatherstripping to prevent the door from sticking to it due to ice. One way to do that is to apply silicone spray into the rubber before the weather gets too cold. You can directly spray the silicone into the weatherstrip, or you can spray it on a clean cloth and then wipe it on the rubber.
Don't make the mistake of using oil or petroleum-based product on your weatherstrip.Oil and petroleum can damage and deteriorate the rubber weatherstrip prematurely. So before purchasing a weatherstrip protectant, read the label and make sure it doesn't have oil or petroleum contents.
Heavy downpour, mud splashes, dust, snow, and other outside elements shouldn't be allowed to seep into and be an annoyance inside your cabin. Thank heavens for your Ford F-250 weatherstrip seal, which efficiently seals any gap on the edges of the doors, windows, windshield, trunks, and other contraptions. This seal, however, isn't designed to last the life of your F-250. After a couple of years, the rubber can get brittle or deteriorate and the special caulking or adhesive may lose its ability to firmly hold the weatherstrip in place, and hence create visible gaps and/or torn sections. Forcing a frozen door open during the winter can also damage the weatherstripping.
If it's now time for you to install new Ford F-250 weatherstrip seal, here are some things to keep in mind to help you carry out proper and faster DIY installation:
Tip #1: Clean the entire length of the area where the weatherstrip seal will be installed.
Once you've removed the old weatehrstripping, you have to clean the entire length of the mounting surface, making sure that there will be no adhesive left. To eliminate oil, wax, or polish, you can clean the area with alcohol wipes or a cloth soaked in alcohol. After cleaning, allow the mounting surface to dry completely because, much like in a dirty surface, the adhesive won't stick well on a wet surface.
Tip #2: Make sure you understand the direction on the proper use of the weatherstripping adhesive or caulking.
The weatherstrip seals are commonly held in place by one or combination of these: weatherstrip seal, screws, glue, clips, special caulk, and pressure. Before installation, it is a good idea to find out first what will secure your new weatherstrip in place and how to properly apply it. This way, you'll know how much time you should allot for the job and what tools you need to properly carry it out.
Tip #3: Allow the adhesive a couple of hours to do its wonders before taking your truck out for a drive.
Of course, you are discouraged to use your truck right after weatherstrip installation. For best results, it's wise to allow the adhesive to bond first with the mounting surface and firmly hold the rubber weatherstrip in place before driving your truck.
