Tips on How to Maintain Ford Bronco Weatherstrip Seal
The weatherstrip seals of the Ford Bronco are designed to keep the elements out from the cabin, but they will eventually fail to function effectively if you don't observe regular maintenance. In this guide, we'll show you some simple tips on maintaining the Ford Bronco weatherstrip seal.
- Clean the strips.
Dirt and mud can hinder the seals from working effectively as well as accelerate wear, so these must be cleaned off as soon and as often as possible. You can safely wash the strips with warm water and car shampoo, followed by spraying a coat of silicone-based lubricant to help retain the seal's flexibility.

For weatherstrips secured by metal screws or fasteners, make sure to check the hardware for rust as well.
- Glue back loose weatherstripping.
Do the weatherstrip seals come off every time you open the door? You can stick them back into place by reapplying weatherstrip adhesive on the strip. With the door frame free of dust and old adhesive residue, you can now apply a thin bead of adhesive at the center of the strip. Let it dry for several seconds and press the strip back into place. Clean off any excess adhesive with brake cleaner.
- Don't force frozen car doors open.
During winter, water can freeze around the weatherstrip, making it difficult if not impossible to open. Under such circumstances, do not open the door by force as this may also rip the weatherstripping as well as potentially damage the door handle and locking mechanism of your car. Instead, pour warm water around the seal of your door to help melt the ice that's keeping the door shut. We also recommend spraying and wiping the seals with penetrating oil to prevent moisture from sticking onto its surface.

Tip #1: Repair vs. replacing?

Rinse the seals with water to remove dust and sand or any rough spots and bumps on the surface. Make sure that the entire length of the seal is smooth and clean before you set it on the frame.
Tip #5: Apply weatherstrip adhesive sparingly.
You only need a small bead of adhesive to ensure the seals stick properly onto the frame. Too much adhesive will spill over the edges and cause a mess.
