THE 42339 GATES WATER PUMP COMES WITH A GASKET.  DOES THE GASKET REQUIRE SEALANT WHEN INSTALLING IT ON A 1987 TOYOTA PICKUP WITH THE STANDARD 4 CYL. FUEL INJECTED ENGINE?  IF IT DOES REQUIRE SEALANT, DO YOU PUT SEALANT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE GASKET?  THANKS SO MUCH.  THE REASON I'M ASKING IS THAT I HAVE A NEW GATES, 42339 WATER PUMP COMING TO OUR FARM FOR INSTALLATION ON THE 1987 TOYOTA PICKUP.  THANKS - BOBBob P.Jan 24, 2021
Best Answer:Hi Bob, The gasket seal is sufficient enough for sealing actually. You do not need an extra sealant. Just make sure the water pump is torqued to the standard specifications required for it's tightening. It is also best to refer to a trusted vehicle specific repair manual for details on installing a water pump or your local auto repair shop.
