The ignition lock cylinder fits into the steering column housing and contains the keyway that the vehicle's ignition key inserts into. When the key is turned in the ignition lock cylinder, it activates the ignition switch located within the steering column housing.
The ignition switch is an electrical component that is triggered by the rotation of the ignition lock cylinder. As the key is turned, the ignition switch sends the appropriate signal to the vehicle's electrical system to start the engine, power accessories or shut off the ignition.
The steering column housing repair kit helps restore the proper alignment and functioning of these interrelated components - the ignition lock cylinder and ignition switch - when the original housing becomes worn or damaged over time.
