The Ford F-250 nerf bars are designed to carry some weight as they help passengers get in and out of the vehicle. They’re built to be sturdy and strong. But as years go by, rust can weaken the strong metal bars. When the coating wears down or the bars get dinged, rust may develop and spread all over, eating away at the bare metal. If the nerf bars get rusty, there are some things you can do to stop rust from spreading, keeping the bars in good condition for years to come. Here are some tips:
How to keep the nerf bars clean and shiny
Polishing
How to prevent the spread of rust
Getting rid of rust
Repainting
Climbing in and out of larger vehicles like monstrous pickup trucks and urban SUVs can be a bit difficult. With some nerf bars on, you wouldn’t have to have a hard time at all. You can also give your ride a more stylish, custom look with these accessories. Installing these metal tubes is supposed to be painless. But there are also some troubles you may encounter along the way. Here’s a short guide on how to troubleshoot common installation problems with Ford F-250 nerf bars.
Bolts that won’t fit
Check if you have the right-sized bolts. For some trucks, the factory body bolts can be used for securing the main brackets. You may also have to see if the boltholes are covered with a plastic grommet or have some covers in it, which explains why the bolts don’t fit. If the holes are filled with rust or dirt, cleaning the threads may do the trick. Once clean, the bolts may finally be able to fit into the holes. If all these don’t work, you have to contact the seller.
Brackets that won’t line up
Upon installing the nerf bars, you then realize that the brackets won’t align with the holes on the bars. Before you panic, you first have to check if the brackets are actually mounted at the right spot or side of the truck. To fix this, you have to switch the bars and then see if the brackets will finally line up with the bolts. Check the components in the nerf bar package to see if they’re complete and if they match what’s listed in the manual.
Nerf bars that thump or rattle
Thumping and rattling can be coming from metal that’s been rubbing against another metal. You have to check the connections to see if they’re tight or there are some loose ends. The brackets should be adjusted. It’ll help if you apply white lithium grease or regular grease between metal contacts.
Step pads don’t align with the doors
If the step pads appear to be in the wrong position, you have to check if the bars and mounting brackets are on the right side of the vehicle. They may need to be switched.
