Mercedes Benz has come up with some classy vehicles and it's no different with the CLK500. Vehicles under the CLK-Class are mid-size rear wheels drive coupes and convertibles, making them some of the smallest under the Mercedes Benz brand. CLK actually stands for Coupe Leicht Kurz, which means Coupe Light Short when translated into English. Although the entire line was originally based on the C-Class, the style, engine, and even the pricing scheme is much more similar with the E-Class. The Mercedes Benz CLK500 is probably one of the most well-known models in the U.S. under the CLK-Class.
Mercedes Benz CLK500 originally came with a 5.0 L, 24-valve SOHC V8 engine that was connected to a seven-speed automatic transmission system. Later models were upgraded to a more powerful 5.5 L 32-valve DOHC V8 engine along with a sportier trim. The interior can seat four people and is furnished with leather and burl walnut trims. Here in the U.S., the CLK500 also came with a Tele Aid emergency assistance system, dual-zone air conditioning, 10-way power front seats, and even rain-sensing windshield wipers. For added safety, the CLK500 also came with four side airbags. Optional accessories included a "Keyless Go" system, a navigation system, a Parktronic system, and a pair of bi-xenon HID headlamps.
The Mercedes Benz CLK500 wasn't all about luxury; it was also a very comfortable vehicle to drive in. The company went for a more ergonomic design and had most of the accessories automated. You get headrests that automatically lowered so that it's in the correct position for taller drivers and even a side mirror that automatically adjusts to show the curb when the car is in reverse. Even with its success here and overseas, the CLK-Class was eventually replaced by the E-Class, which is seen as a further refinement of the style and tech found in the CLK-Class.
