To drop the ride height and give the vehicle a lowered stance, some car owners turn to cutting their stock springs, which isn’t safe at all. If you want to drop the vehicle a few inches to the ground, lowering springs are a better alternative. You can get the look and performance you desire without compromising the quality of the stock springs and dramatically changing the ride quality. We turned to MaxTrac lowering springs and tried them out on our Dodge. Here’s what we have to say about the products.

Pros
- Our Dodge got about 2 inches drop. We love the sporty look that this gave our ride.
- These lowering springs for the rear prove to be better options than adjustable coil-overs. These gave the vehicle a much better stance with lower center of gravity, which is a plus for vehicle handling.
- These springs have a “made in the US quality.” They look and feel solid—props to their heavy-duty construction.
- Our Dodge handled well. After installing these lowering springs, we took the vehicle out for a spin. And after a series of test drives, we can say that the vehicle seems to corner better with increased speed and better turning power. The springs provided better control and did eliminate body rolls and acceleration squats.
- The lowering springs are specially designed for rear application on our Dodge. They fit well and installed easily.
- They’re priced just right. They’re among the reliable mid-range options for lowering springs.
Cons
- We can’t say that the lowering springs remarkably enhanced the ride quality. The ride isn’t the smoothest. It feels a little tighter or stiffer and the suspension seems more rigid, but we can’t say it’s a harsh ride.
- The lowering springs may cause faster or increased wear on rear tires and some suspension parts, which is part of the tradeoff.
- Although these work well with stock shocks, they’re much paired with some aftermarket shocks.
Our rating
Overall, we can say that the lowering springs from MaxTrac are reliable. The drop is stable, and we got the lowered stance we wanted. Considering their heavy-duty construction, lifetime limited warranty, reasonable pricing, and honest-to-goodness benefits, these lowering springs are definitely worth a shot. They’re not for high-performance driving and track handling, but they will do for modest consumer expectations and needs.
