From what I read in some research, this sensor (variable slide resistor) is able to provide more position points of the intake flap than the stock, sending a more linear signal than the stock sensor. I was trouble shooting my rough idle, thinking this was one of the the faulty components, but it turned out to be the engine temp sensor. So, I swapped the old with the new, and there was a difference in throttle response. I took apart my old one, and didn't find any wear-through on the circuit board, but still tweaked the prongs so they went along some fresh copper, and still, the NEW sensor was a major improvement. BOTTOM LINE, provides more info to the FI system for better response and overall performance. A worthwhile "upgrade".
