What are tow hooks? Can they be mounted even if grille guards are installed?
A tow hook is a small metal hook mounted on the bottom of the glider fuselage. It is used when a car needs to be towed and is installed around the car's center of gravity. A grille guard is a part of the grille assembly that protects the grille and other car components in the front of the vehicle against scratching from driving through brush. It's very popular with truck owners who drive off-road. However, it has the tendency to get in the way of tow hooks. Fortunately, most grille guards are manufactured so that they are mounted on the same position as the tow hooks. Grille guards that require removal of the factory tow hooks will most often include alternate tow hooks along with the assembly.
What are the advantages of plastic over steel grilles?
Steel grilles can be made of stainless steel or aluminum. Strength and durability are the advantages of steel grilles over plastic grilles, which are less sturdy and durable. However, plastic grilles are sometimes preferred over steel grilles because they are lightweight, and they resist corrosion better than steel grilles. They are also impervious to rust and can be painted to match or accent the car's paint.
What is the difference between a billet grille and a mesh grille?
A billet grille is made from aluminum and has a high-luster polished or chromed appearance. It has a black baked-on powder coating finish, and usually features vertical or horizontal bars or punched honeycomb holes. A mesh grille is usually installed in fast cars. It is polished to a high-luster finish or zinc-plated. Much like a billet grille, a steel mesh grille is finished with a baked-on powder coating. Its main difference with a billet grille is that it is made of steel woven mesh.
