We tested this component on a 2007 Hyundai Tucson and a 2000 Mitsubishi Triton, and here is what we have to say:
Thumbs up
- The units looked really appealing. The polish was not that glossy—somewhat matte, actually—but that was not a big issue. The tubes were solid and had the right diameter and cab length, the side steps were expertly welded, and the side step pads were high-quality.
- It was a good feature that the side step pads could be removed in case we opted to custom-paint the bars.
- After the forty-five minute installation on each vehicle, we stepped on the components to see how strong they were and the mounting fasteners. The units actually withstood the weight two medium-built persons.
- The nerf bars did not interfere with how the Tucson and the Triton cruised on the highway in high speed. There was no aerodynamic drag whatsoever.
Thumbs down
- When we opened the package, we were quite unsure if what we saw were tube ends that were bent up a bit. But we were able to confirm that by seeing the end caps that were pushed in the tubes sideways. That was poor quality control from the company, for the damage could not have originated from shipping.
- The package was missing two bolts and a washer. We did not find them when we searched the package a couple of times. We just decided to send our blessings to where those fasteners could have been left.
The verdict
If you prefer nerf bars with side steps, then this kind should definitely be your bet. A pair is actually well-priced, and this sort of design is not very common among manufacturers, making it kind of unique. Performance and warranty are also good. Thus, you will not be wasting your time and money on this product.
