Tips in Removing Mold and Mildew from Jeep Wrangler JK Floor Mats
Off-road trips can definitely take a toll on your Jeep Wrangler JK floor mats. After all, these mats prevent dirt, grime, and water from damaging your vehicle’s built-in carpet or flooring. Over time, these car interior accessories will show signs of old age and damage. One such obvious indication is mold and mildew accumulation. Once moisture gets into the carpet, the moist condition creates the perfect habitat for mold and mildew. Fortunately, moldy mats can be easily cleaned. Here are some tips:
- Use a vacuum.
With the use of a shop or hand-held vacuum, you can suck out the excess water and food debris from the mats. Make sure to use just the right amount of vacuum pressure to prevent damaging fabric mats. Once you’ve removed the excess moisture, give the mats a good wash and let them air dry completely.
- Use the car heater.
Aside from a vacuum, you can also get rid of excess moisture by turning up the heater to the maximum level after a car wash. Then leave the heater on for a couple of hours to completely dry off the mats and carpet. This way, excess water is removed to prevent mold and mildew buildup.
- Wash the Jeep Wrangler JK floor mats with a mold-removing solution.
There really isn’t a single, perfect mold-removing recipe because you can use lots of ingredients that can be easily found in your kitchen. Here are some ideas and tips:
Water and borax - To create a mold-removing paste, put some water into a container and add a bit of borax. Then use a brush to rub this paste onto the floor mats. Rinse and air dry the mats.
Water, lemon juice, and salt – Mix these ingredients together in a container until the mixture becomes a paste. Then scrub the paste into the mats using a toothbrush. After scrubbing and letting the mixture sit on the carpet for half an hour, rinse the carpets thoroughly and air dry them.
Water, bleach, and dishwashing detergent – Another tip is to mix dishwashing liquid, bleach, and water together in a container. Apply this solution onto the mats using a sponge. Then rinse the mats and air dry completely.
