Useful Tips to Deal with the Issues on Your Jeep CJ5 Floor Mats

Stuck gas pedal
You may have heard about road accidents that involved stuck gas pedals due to floor mats, where the driver can't control the car anymore as it continues to speed up. In fact, some models have already been recalled due to this problem. That's why it's advised to have your vehicle checked by your dealer to make sure that your floor mats, whether stock or aftermarket, won't get wedged under the accelerator. However, should you find yourself running at increasing speeds and unable to slow down, you may want to try to step on the brake pedal as you pull back on the accelerator to stop your vehicle.
Slipping floor mats
Did you know that you can lose your balance while climbing in on your Jeep due to the slipping floor mat? If you've experienced this, then you definitely know how annoying it feels to nearly fall off your vehicle just because your floor mat doesn't stay in place. To avoid this, you may want to replace the mats on your Jeep because they may already be worn out. Keep in mind that they lose their anti-slip ability as they age. And if you're buying new ones, make sure that you get direct-fit floor mats that have anti-slip features like the rubberized backing. However, if you don't want to spend for new ones, you can buy a carpet tape or a non-slip polyester material from the hardware store and cut them in the shape of your mats. You can place the cutouts underneath the floor mats to prevent them from slipping again.
Cracks
If you take your Jeep CJ5 out during the hot summer days then wash them after, your rubber floor mats may break or form cracks as they get exposed to extreme temperatures. There is no better solution but to buy new mats. However, you should keep in mind that you have to buy those that are built to withstand different temperatures to avoid getting damaged again.
Often, your Jeep C5 floor mats are overlooked when you're cleaning your vehicle, which leaves them looking dirtier and older than they should be. To avoid having such floor mats on your Jeep, here are some useful cleaning tips to help you make them look as good as new:
Remove loose debris.
To get rid of any loose dirt or debris on the surface, you need to take out your floor mats so you can shake or sweep them. You can even use a cloth to wipe them down to make sure that any dirt in between the ridges will be removed.
Wash with soap and water.
You need a mixture of two tablespoons of mild dish soap and a gallon of warm water to wash your rubber floor mats. Remember to use a brush to scrub off any muddy or dried buildup and leave the mats squeaky clean. Once you're satisfied with the results, you can hose them down.
Use baking soda.
If your floor mats have tough stains or hardened mud that your brush can't remove, you can sprinkle the mats with baking soda and scrub them using a cloth. Keep in mind that you need to rinse the cloth several times while cleaning the rubber floor mats. And when you're done, don't forget to rinse the mats well to remove any traces of dirt and baking soda.
Spray degreaser.
You can use a degreaser as an alternative for baking soda. However, remember to let it sit on the surface of the floor mats for 15 minutes, and then you can hose it down with water after.
Dry them.
Make sure that you allow your rubber floor mats to dry after cleaning them. You can wipe them using a microfiber towel before placing them right under the sun or in a well-ventilated area. You may also want to place a fan next to it to make sure that they dry properly.
Coat them with rubber-finishing treatment.
If you want to bring up the shine on your rubber floor mats, you can coat them with a non-greasy, rubber-finishing treatment, which you can get from the auto supply stores. Apply just a small amount on your foam pad and rub it on the surface in a circular motion. Remember, though, to let it sit on the mats for five minutes before wiping them to get rid of any excess dressing.
