Heat-resistant and pressure-resistant—these are the two qualities that you must look for in a power steering hose. Your power steering mechanism uses a lot of pressure and is subject to high temperatures, so it behooves that you have a hose that can withstand more than 250 degrees of temperature and 1,000 psi of pressure. Since a good pump is only as good as a working hose, then you have to maintain this hose to prevent it from cracking. Leaks in the power steering system will make it less efficient, making you exert more effort in turning the front wheels than necessary. If you have not replaced your hose yet ever since, then it is time to bring back the health of your system by installing a new power steering hose. Check out one from Edelmann, but before buying, let us first see if it is a worthy product.

We tested this component on a Toyota Avalon and an Acura Legend, and here is what we have to say:
Thumbs up
- The diameter and length of the hose were according to the measurements of the original one removed from the Avalon and the Legend.
- The hose looked as if it had a waterproof cover on it. We considered this as a good feature that would make the unit less susceptible to the elements.
- The hose material looked thick and strong enough to withstand high temperature and pressure.
- When driving the two vehicles with the new hose on, we noticed that the front wheels responded better. We did not need to put more effort in steering.
- After the test drive, we inspected the areas around the hose and saw no leaks. The hose was tightly installed even though the unit did not come with end fittings.
Thumbs down
- We noticed that there was a humming sound coming from the power steering system whenever we halted at stoplights. When slowing down to park, the newly installed hose on the Avalon and the Legend caused a whining sound that was very annoying.
- There were no mounting brackets, heat shields, and sheathing available that would protect the hose from engine heat.
- Installing the product was a bit of a hassle. The thread of the screw on the lower fitting was difficult to catch on its mounting hole. Also, the hose had to be bent slightly, creating a small crimp that indicated a critical area.
The verdict
This Edelmann power steering hose is an affordable option for replacing your worn one. Despite the installation difficulties we had, we can still consider it a good product for its great specifications that rival other brands. It has one of the cheapest prices out there, but warranty is kind of uncertain.
