The Dodge distributor cap is an important component in the ignition system, helping to deliver high voltage spark to the engine cylinders. The combustion process that produces the power of the engine requires three crucial ingredients. These are oxygen and fuel, delivered to the cylinder in a balanced mixture, and high voltage spark to ignite this mixture in the engine combustion chambers, beginning the combustion process. The high voltage spark is produced by the coil, and then transferred via a heavily insulated high voltage wire to the distributor. The spark plug uses the voltage to ignite the fuel and mixture in the engine combustion chamber.
