Spark Plug Wire, Set Of 4
Don't forget to change the Plug Wires too!!
Well, you buy a car from a used car place, and you expect they've checked to see if the spark plugs were changed since the car was originally purchased some 70K miles ago, right? Wrong! So you drive the car, and it's OK, but the Check Engine light keeps lighting, even after you swap the oxygen sensor, and then it starts missing during acceleration and low RPM operation. Cleaning the injectors doesn't help! Oy! Whatsamatta! Is the car going over a cliff? Check the plugs, dummy! They were obviously OEM, and instead of being gapped @ 1.1mm had worn to more like 3.0mm! Jeepers! And one of them had a scorch mark running down the side of it! Change those plugs! Wow! Much better. Now the missing is gone, and the Check Engine light goes out during highway trips. But it comes back on in city driving. Remember that scorch mark, and think about what those huge gaps were doing to stress the insulation on the old plug wires. Get new Plug wires! Snazzy looking blue ones (lowest price available, too!). Put em on! Pay attention to the distance between the spark plug connector and the strain relief--it needs to match up with the wire you are removing. Best to take off the wires one at a time and compare when replacing. This is where a smidgeon of documentation would be nice. Run the car! O Heaven! Excellent low-RPM torque. Better gas mileage. And that darn Check Engine light goes out, and stays out! Spark plugs and wires--easy to change, easy to forget, but still critical to how well your car runs. These items are an excellent place to perform maintenance if your car is starting to misbehave and you don't remember the last time you changed your plugs. Best purchase under $50 I ever made for my car (I'm including the new plugs in the deal).
