Will this part cause hesitation on acceleration at takeoff?Robert C.Dec 31, 2023
Best Answer:Hi Robert, thank you for reaching out. No, this will not. Some of the symptoms of a bad neutral safety switch are engine that cranks in neutral or park but not both, an engine that refuses to start, and an engine that starts on any gear. We highly suggest that a certified mechanic diagnose your vehicle to pinpoint the part needing replacement. Have a nice day.

I have a 2005 Subaru Outback L.L. Bean Edition H6 Engine. I can't locate the "neutral switch" on the shifter nor transmission. Can you help please? The only way to currently start the vehicle is to put the shifter in neutral and connect the negative jumper cable to the negative post on the battery and the other negative jumper cable to the engine block (assuming a ground or neutral switch issue). Tried to do the same in park but only cranks in neutral. Thanks in advance.Timothy S.Nov 03, 2023
Best Answer:Hi Timothy, I'm pleased to assist you. Based on Subaru Outback forums and parts websites, the neutral safety switch is located on the right side of the transmission near the front next to the shift cable. It is important to note that the neutral safety switch may also be referred to as the inhibitor switch or the gear position sensor, depending on the source. You can use the link below to directly place your order while supplies last. I hope this helps, and happy shopping! https://www.carparts.com/neutral-safety-switch/replacement/rs50640001?can=CPGG4850_CSQA_20231103

Does it come with keys?Mark R.Nov 30, 2022
Best Answer:Hi Mark, I'm pleased to assist you. No, the neutral safety switch does not have a key. You may be referring to an ignition lock cylinder with keys. Can you send us the year, make, model, submodel, and engine size of the vehicle or the 17-character VIN so we can check availability and fitment? We look forward to your response. Have a good one.
