My daughter has a 2010 malibu ltz 3.6L and we need to replace the catalytic converter.  Then I find out the car actually has 3!! How can we find out which one other than "it's the one in the middle?"MamaBear2018Mar 23, 2023
Best Answer:Hi Caroline, I'm glad to assist you. There are a few steps you can take to diagnose the problem: 1. Check the trouble codes: Use an OBD-II scanner to retrieve any trouble codes related to the catalytic converters. This will help you narrow down which converter is causing the problem. 2. Listen for unusual noises: A faulty catalytic converter may produce rattling or clunking sounds, especially when the vehicle is idling or accelerating. 3. Check the temperature: Use an infrared thermometer to check the temperature of each catalytic converter. If one of the converters is much hotter or cooler than the others, it may be the one that is not functioning correctly. 4. Perform a visual inspection: Check each catalytic converter for signs of physical damage, such as cracks or dents. Also, check for discoloration, which may indicate that the converter is overheating. I hope this helps.
