Timing Chain Kit, 6 Cyl., 4.0L Engine
Still Smiling
The new parts looks OK. The camshaft sprocket seems a bit sharp on the machined edges but in general looked identical to the original part. The crankshaft sprocket also appeared to be identical to the original but did look like it was heat treated. The metal was not of a uniform color but there could be a variety of reasons for this. The rest of the kit was complete. There was a "rubber" chain guide in the kit which surprised me. It was pliable and I was reluctant to use it since the original appeared to be rigid and made of a different material. I think the components I removed were original with 294,000+ miles. Perhaps is was also rubber but the old guide might have been "baked in oil" too long. Every thing went back together correctly and I have about 50 miles of operation on the new hardware. I have not had it above 50 MPH as yet. I thought I would just use it locally until I build up some confidence in the repair. The quality appears to be good. The jury is still out on performance other than the parts work as designed.
