Is there a difference between a idler pulley and a belt tensioner?Myk O.Jul 24, 2024
Best Answer:Hi Myk, thanks for initiating contact. Yes, there is. The idler pulley guides the belt path while the tensioner pulley applies the necessary tension. They work together to keep the serpentine belt system operating smoothly and efficiently. Replacing both components at the same time is often recommended if one has failed, as the bearings in the pulleys wear at a similar rate. What size socket do you for the tensioner to install a new belt?A shopperFeb 24, 2021
Best Answer:Hi, Slot the 3/4-inch socket onto the end of your breaker bar. Slide the socket onto the end of the bolt that protrudes from the belt tensioner just above the main crankshaft pulley.
