I have an E-450 V-10 powering my motorhome and am installing a lithium house battery.  Is this alternator considered a "smart" alternator?  I need to know as the DC-DC charger I'm going to be installing to charger this Lithium battery  requires a special wire run to a smart alternator to communicate with it. Best Answer:Hello! This alternator is capable of voltage sensing "smart" charging - however, you will need to verify that your motorhome uses that feature. The easiest way is probably to check how many wires are in the 3 pin connector on the alternator. If there is only 1 wire, then it is not being used for "smart" charging
