My 25 year old Dodge Ram with 99K original miles has a new looking Dash and instrument pannel
I added this IP cover after covering my cracked dash with the product supplied by the same Replacement Part company from Car Parts .com. The IP Bezel on my truck was badly cracked in several places, and began to crumble across the top when I attempted to pull it away from the dash slightly to allow the dash cover to slide behind it. The IP cover was slightly warped and would not glue down evenly. It would only stay glued along the top edge and popped up about a quarter of an inch from the bottom. So I let it dry for a day and a half with just the top glued in place. By carefully selecting a location which would not contact anything critical underneath, I drilled two small holes and installed flat head Automotive trim screws along the bottom spaced about a foot apart. Now it stays in place and is fully seated against the face. I was surprised how good it looks. Like new, and the screws are not visable as you sit in the drivers seat. Honestly, I used screws only ( no glue) when I installed the dash cover ( first drilled out the 5 locations for the stock screws holding the dash up near the windshield) . Again, careful to select a location that did not interfere with the works underneath , I placed two screws on each end of the dash in the area that is covered when the door is closed on each side plus the original 5 screws by the windshield. ( Not my Idea, saw it on UTube) and the results were great! The only problem was the two outermost screws ( near the corner of the windshield) required slightly longer screws! The three in the middle accepted the stock screws with some difficulty in starting them, but did work just fine. Again, this was done so that any repairs in the future would not require removal of a glued on cover. Worked great. My dash looks so good I am inspired to replace more interior trim like the headliner and seatcovers. Despite the fact that the dash cover seemed flimsy, cheap, and thin, the end result is a new looking dash that fits very well. Only time will tell how it holds up to the New Mexico sunshine. Not a difficult repair, does require some patience and care, but well worth the effort!
