2004 745li, what does the map sensor do? When & how do I know when to replace?NizhoneyApr 04, 2022
Best Answer:Hi Dee, I'm glad to assist you. The Manifold Pressure Sensor is used in an engine's electronic control system. Engines that use a pressure sensor are typically fuel injected. The sensor provides instant manifold pressure information to the engine's ECM (computer of the car). The data is used to calculate air density and determine the engine's air mass flow rate, which in turn determines the required fuel delivery for perfect combustion. Customer Reviews

The sensor works fine, however getting the old one out and the new one in was difficult. I'm not sure what to recommend for the DIY mechanic. One has to disassemble the plastic trim below the windshield as well as the electrical harnasses over the engine. I also recommend working on the car when it is cold otherwise you burn yourself on the engine manifolds. It was also difficult to unscrew the old and screw in the new because of the limited space. Nevertheless, I managed to do it on my own in about an hour.
