Color Finish : BlackDrivers with a cold air intake for their Dodge Dakota may expect an increase of about 3-15 horsepower under optimal conditions. This increase is made possible by allowing the maximum amount of air to flow into the vehicle's engine.
The cold air intake will be fine as long as the Dodge Dakota is not driven through a flooded road. However, if the driver did take the automobile through flooded areas, then there is a great chance that the cold air intake will get submerged into water. When this happens, the cold air intake will decrease the Dodge Dakota's performance instead of boosting the car's horsepower. The cold air intake can actually suck the contaminated water from rain puddles, streams, floods, and other elements because the intake draws the air from a relatively low position. To prevent engine failure, bypass valves may be equipped on the Dodge Dakota. These valves close off the induction from the intake's main filter and reroute the air flow through their external diaphragm to prevent water ingestion.
As the name implies, the short ram intake system's pipe is short in size. This means that when equipped on the Dodge Dakota, the air filter remains near the engine. In contrast, cold air intake has longer piping, so the air filter is placed farther from the automobile's hot engine. As a result, the system draws in cooler air. In general, the cold air intake system boosts more horsepower than the short ram intake because the cooler air is packed with more oxygen, which creates more power for the Dodge Dakota.
