Question? Hello, a transmission repair shop just installed this kit that they bought, including the flywheel, in my 6 cylinder 2.8L 5 spd manual 2004 VW Passat GLX wagon that has about 140k miles on it that I've owed and religiously cared for since I bought it new in Dec 2003. Previously, the original VW clutch was smooth and precise when shifting, that is prior to the clutch starting to slip about 4 weeks ago! The shop recommended this refit kit but now the car shifts like crap. Each gear shift jumps into gear with no smooth transition and there is no ability to even feather in a smooth clutch pedal gear shift any more. I have driven stick shifts my entire life (I'm 69yo) and I've never encountered this kind immediate engagement an jumping in of gearing transition, it is truely horrendous. I had shop rebleed the master cylinder which oddly made a very slight difference in particular gearing between 3-4-5, but nothing at 1-2-3. The shop says it needs to 'break in' but I find that hard to believe and driving is now very unpleasant. Do you have any thoughts or recommendations as I don't know where to turn. Thank you. Best Answer:Hi Mark, thanks for initiating contact. I checked using your email address (msegalla@verizon.net) but found no order history. I strongly disagree with the shop's claim that the transmission needs to "break in". A new clutch and flywheel should not cause abrupt and harsh shifting. That's simply not how it works. If the flywheel isn't properly aligned or torqued, it can cause clutch engagement problems. If the shop is unable to resolve the issue, consider seeking a second opinion from a different transmission or clutch specialist who has experience with VW vehicles. I hope this helps. Have a good one!
