Remember the day you exchanged your good old Camaro for a Chevrolet Lumina APV just to accommodate your growing family? It felt like saying goodbye to your bachelor life forever, and shouting hello to messy car seats, irritating baby noises, and everything else that comes with the marital package. But do you also remember how you learned to love your new van? Just when you were about to head back for your old car, you looked at the rearview mirror and saw the happy faces of your kids, excited about their first ride in the minivan. And then you decided that this Lumina APV isn't so bad after all.
The product of GM's second attempt at tapping the minivan market, the Chevrolet Lumina APV was perhaps one of the most versatile vehicles ever produced by GMmaking it the preferred family vehicle back in the early 90s. A 7-seater auto with top-notch safety systems and optional built-in child seats, the Lumina APV parts included body panels made of fiberglass and steel. It also had sliding doors and a rear liftgate, allowing easy access to the cargo area for storing groceries, baby strollers, diaper bags and other bulky items. Capable of producing up to 170 hp, the Lumina APV parts in the engine provided modest horsepower and fuel efficiency that's perfect for everyday city driving.
At the time of its production, critics panned the vehicle's avant-garde styling calling it a "dustbuster," named after a household cleaning vacuum cleaning appliance that had a similar shape to the minivan. GM remodeled the exterior and gave Chevrolet Lumina APV a complete facelift by shortening its nose and removing the a-pillar to make way for a more conventional style. Though this model did not receive a high level of commercial success, it became a good starting point for GM to produce more powerful and stylish minivans such as the Uplander.
