Was there a recall done regarding Volkswagen Beetle catalytic converters?
Around 2007, Volkswagen sent out a memo regarding the faulty catalytic converters of certain Beetle model. Some models included were the 2001-2002 New Beetle 2.0L (AVH and AZG) and both the 2003 New Beetle Convertible 2.0L (AVH and BDC). Their response to the problematic converters was more of an extended warranty rather than a total vehicle recall. The car's bad converter can be serviced if it's 10 years old or has traveled 100,000 miles. Just bring the Beetle, along with the necessary documents, to a Volkswagen dealer and they'll diagnose the problem for at once.
What does the check engine code P0420 mean?
If the Volkswagen Beetle was scanned and resulted to a reading of code P0420, this is usually a sign of a broken catalytic converter, bad fuel to air ratio, air leak, or a busted oxygen sensor.
