Tips and Tricks on Cleaning and Maintaining the Pontiac Firebird Carpet Kit

Instead, brush the carpet first with a carpet brush or a vacuum brush attachment. The brush should be able to dislodge any embedded dirt for the vacuum to pick up.
- Clean up spills before they dry up.
Dropped your cup of morning coffee by accident? Blot it out with water and paper towels while it is still moist. Letting spills dry will allow the stains to stick onto the fibers, making them harder to clean up.
- Remove grease and oil-based spills with paint thinner.
Grease, engine oil, and petroleum-based spills can be harder to clean up compared to regular stains, but a bit of paint thinner should be able to clear it up. Rub a small amount of thinner on the stained area using cotton cloth and cover it with salt overnight. The thinner should blot out the oil enough for the salt to absorb. For colorfast carpets, replace the paint and salt with cornmeal instead.
- Clear up musty-smelling carpets with borax.
Is the carpet starting to smell like your socks? Deodorize it by sprinkling a generous amount of borax onto its surface and letting it sit for an hour before vacuuming. The borax can also help kill fleas, bedbugs, and other insects that reside on the carpet fibers.

Do not use a drill to cut holes in the carpet; the fibers may get caught in the drill bit, causing the carpet to unravel or for the bit to grab and wrap the carpet and your arm around the drill.
