Prior to your Ford carpet kit installation, it is important to make sure that the floor pan is immaculately clean and free of rust. To get rid of dust and dirt, vacuum the floor thoroughly. The rusted spots need to be treated using rust converter and painted with rust-inhibiting paint. By doing this, you are ridding the floor panel of the elements that can cause damage on the floor and on the new carpet.
You can make things easier by using your old carpet as a template and tracing the cutout openings onto your new carpet using a chalk. You can also pre-fit the new carpet into the vehicle to double-check if the cutout marks are perfectly positioned on the actual stud and anchor points on your Ford’s floor pan. If the marks are all correct, that’s when you should X-shaped openings at every chalk mark you made. If there’s excess carpet in the door sills, cut it off and apply a light coat of spray adhesive to the back of the carpet, where it meets the firewall.
That means that the carpet’s backing and padding surface is made up of a heavy-duty, thick, foam-like rubber that’s capable of keeping heat and sound inside the cabin of your Ford. It also offers extra cushioning underneath the carpet, which doubles as insulating material to reduce the heat and vibration being transferred into the interior. By providing the vehicle with better insulation, your Ford will need less heat and energy to maintain interior comfort, therefore improving its gas mileage.
If you still don’t have a portable vacuum, a carpet-cleaning machine would be a good investment, particularly if you regularly use your Ford not only on your daily commutes but also for rugged drives. Such machine sucks up not just surface dirt but even those that got deep into the fibers of the carpet. Unlike vacuum, this machine sprays a cleaning solution into the carpet and then sucks the grime and filth into a reservoir.
Coffee spills can be diluted with cool water. Blot using paper towels or clean rags. If after drying, you notice that the stains are still there, try spraying glass cleaner on the stain and allow it to sit in the fabric of the carpet for 5 minutes before blotting. Unlike traditional carpet cleansers, the glass cleaner can clean and rid upholstery and carpeting of dirt and stains without having soapy residues.
You can sprinkle generous amount of borax unto the carpet and leave it inside your car for an hour or more before vacuuming. Borax won’t just eliminate foul odor but will also kill fleas and their eggs, making it ideal for those who travel with pets. If borax didn’t work, you can also try to use several vinegar-soaked towels. Put each towel in a bowl and position it in different places inside the vehicle. Leave the towels inside the car overnight, allowing them to absorb the smell.
Try using hair spray as this is effective in lifting out stains caused by pen ink. Just spray some on the stain and let it sit for a few minutes or until you’re sure that it gets absorbed by the carpet’s fabric. Then, brush the stain off. The hair spray is also safe for use even on automotive upholstery.
