Like the carpeting on your home, the carpet in your Chevrolet Camaro should be maintained on a regular basis. Dirt, stains, and foot traffic can quickly wear out the carpet fibers; but with proper care, you can keep the carpet in good condition and save you a lot of money in a replacement kit. Here's a quick guide on how to maintain the Chevrolet Camaro carpet kit.
Vacuuming the carpet at least on a weekly basis can help keep dirt, food particles, and other debris from building up. But to get those particles that are deeply embedded onto the carpet fibers, we recommend using a brush attachment alongside the vacuum. The brush should help make dirt and debris "pop out" from the carpet fabric, making it easier for it to be picked up by the vacuum. If a vacuum attachment is not available, you can use a carpet brush to sweep the carpet before vacuuming.
For general stains, we recommend washing the carpet with warm water and carpet cleaner. Specially designed to clean carpets and fabric upholstery, carpet cleaners will not damage the fabric or cause the color to fade unlike standard laundry detergent. Use a hard-bristled brush to scrub the cleaner into the fabric and let it sit for 30 minutes to allow the cleaning solution to break down the stains. Dry the carpet by blotting it out with towels or thick absorbent rags.
Grease and other oil-based stains can be difficult to remove with standard cleaning solutions, but you can clear them up by rubbing it with paint thinner and a cotton cloth. Afterwards, cover the stain with salt until the remaining grease has been absorbed. Make sure to test the effect of the paint thinner on the colorfastness of the carpeting first, however, before starting.
Use a sponge mop to apply a mixture of half cup clear ammonia and a pint of water. This should be able to restore faded carpets immediately. Do not use this on wool carpeting, however, as ammonia will damage the wool fibers.
The carpet of the Chevrolet Camaro doesn't normally require replacement in its lifetime; but neglect, heavy foot traffic, or severe damage of the carpet will necessitate the need to replace it with a new one. And in such cases, you will need a carpet kit. As its name implies, the carpet kit consists of the molded carpet and hardware needed to install it onto the car interior. These kits are designed to make installing a new carpet an easier process, although it will still entail removing a lot of components in the cabin.
Planning on installing a Chevrolet Camaro carpet kit? Here are some tips you might find helpful:
Tip #1: Let your new carpet sit overnight.
Molded carpets are often compressed tightly in its box to protect it against damage during transportation and to save space, but at the cost of being flat, curled, or wrinkly once it arrives at your doorstep. So once the carpet is out of the box, lay it on the ground and let it settle for one or two hours to regain its original molded shape. You can also push the contoured sections with your hands to reshape them back to their original state. Make sure to do this at room temperature, as cold conditions may prevent the carpet from loosening up.
Tip #2: Clean up the floor pan first.
If your carpet has worn out or got damaged to the point that it needs to be replaced, chances are your Camaro's floor is quite dirty. Use a vacuum to remove any dirt and dust particles and remove any rust spots with a wire brush and mild antirust solvent. If the body insulation is also worn out, replace that as well. Otherwise, set it aside.
Tip #3: Use your old carpet as a template to cut the new carpets.
Aftermarket carpets are often shipped larger than usual to accommodate adjustments and modifications, so a bit of cutting is required. To this end, we recommend using the old carpet as a template to cut down the new carpet down to its correct size.
Tip #4: Use a spray adhesive to secure the carpet on the floor.
Usually found in auto parts stores, automotive spray adhesive will give your carpet a smoother fit and keep it from moving for a long time. Make sure to spray the adhesive evenly onto the floor pan to prevent any weak spots from occurring.
