A part of the Chevrolet Cavalier bumper cover was cracked open. Is there any way to fix it, or should the whole thing be replaced?
Most modern vehicles, including the Chevrolet Cavalier, sport bumper covers that are made of plastic. These bumper covers are reinforced with thermoplastic, which make the covers an excellent cushion during collisions. The downside to having plastic bumpers, however, is that they easily split open upon impact. This can be easily fixed by using epoxy adhesive and pressing the chinks together to keep them in place. A soldering iron can also be used to seal the cracks. However, there is absolutely no need for a Chevy Cavalier bumper cover replacement unless the damage is so big, that it cannot be remedied by simple gluing or soldering.
One side of the bumper cover is hanging lower than the other side. What could be causing the problem?
Bumper covers sometimes become loose when they are not installed properly or if the clips that hold the cover to the car aren't lined up properly to their slots. Aligning the clips with the slots and tightening the bolts behind the bumper cover should take care of the problem. Another reason for this could be the improper molding of the cover. If this is the case, the whole thing needs a replacement.
The paint on the bumper cover has chipped. Will painting over it solve the problem?
There are two kinds of bumper cover finishes--raw and primered. Raw refers to bumper covers that haven't been primered, while primered refers to covers that have been smeared with a base coat. Between the two, a raw-finish bumper cover is easier to paint. Doing so should mask the parts where the paint has chipped. On the other hand, a primered bumper cover will have to be sanded off first before painting to remove the wax and silicone residue on the surface.
