Material : AcrylicThe bug shield may look like a simple contraption added in front of the truck, but it actually produces a streamlined spurt of air to deflect bugs and other elements away from your truck, especially from the hood, windshield, and other front-end components. You see, bugs are a big NO as they become a sticky caked-on mess that could damage the truck's paint job. So it pays to keep your Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD bug shield in good shape. Here are some tips to help you maintain the bug shield of your Silverado 2500HD:
After a serious off-roading or any rugged task, your Silverado usually gets filthy. If you're too tired or you don't have time for a thorough car wash, then at least take time to wash and brush dead bugs off the bug shield. Dead bugs, especially those that have dried up, can really be a pain to remove, so don't expect to eliminate all of them on your first try.
Once you've washed and dried the bug shield, it is a good idea to check it for scratches, dings, crack, and other signs of damage. If you notice anything unusual, deal with it immediately to prevent it from getting more serious. While hairline scratches can be ignored, deeper and longer ones can really be unsightly and may take away from your otherwise good-looking truck.
Age and frequent exposure to direct sunlight and other elements can make your Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD bug shield appear dull, therefore giving your truck an unkempt look. You can restore your bug shield's original luster by polishing and buffing it. Just make sure that you'll use the right polish for the type of material your bug shield is made of. For best results in buffing, it is a good idea to run the buffer in circular motion. If you want an extra layer of shine, you can put another coat of polish and then rebuff the bug shield.
Your Chevy Silverado is built with heavy duty strength for heavy duty jobs. If you’ve got something serious to tow or you need to negotiate with a difficult terrain, you can count on your Silverado 2500 to help you get through. But just because it’s powerful and brawny doesn’t mean it no longer needs some kind of protection that can be given by several truck add-ons. No matter how tough of a truck it is, your Silverado is still susceptible to bugs and other airborne particles that can become a gooey mess, damaging the car paint. So, it is but right that you outfit your truck with a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD bug shield. Besides its practical purpose, the bug shield is also easy to install. To help you carry out your DIY bug shield installation, here are some tips to keep in mind:
Tip #1: Make sure the mounting surface is immaculately clean.
Anytime you have to do any exterior modification on your ride, it is wise to wash the vehicle first and allow it to dry completely before starting off with the task. No matter what secures the bug shield in place, whether bolts, screws, clamps, tape, or any adhesive, the secret to make the mounting hardware really effective is to apply it on an immaculately clean surface. A clean surface doesn’t only mean dirt free, but it should also be free of oil and grease. So after washing the car, be doubly sure of the cleanliness of the mounting surface by wiping off the area with alcohol wipes. After cleaning, dry the area thoroughly before installing the bug shield.
Tip #2: Test-fit the bug shield first.
Prior to securing the bug shield in its place, it pays to test-fit it first for you to be sure of its position and location. This can be done by placing the bug shield right where you want it installed and marking its position. Once you’re sure about its alignment and position, that’s the only time that you should secure the bug shield in place using the mounting hardware that comes with it.
Tip #3: Allow your newly installed bug shield to settle on its place for a couple of hours before using the vehicle.
After installation, let your bug shield settle on its place first before driving your Silverado. This is especially true if the shield is held in place by a 3M tape or other types of adhesive. You should allow the adhesive a couple of hours to bond with the mounting surface before taking your truck out for a ride.
