Why does the BMW 325i brake disc fail? Well, this part doesn't last for a lifetime. Find out the signs and symptoms of a faulty brake disc by reading these troubleshooting tips.
Odd sounds
As you drive, take note of any unusual sounds that are coming from the brakes. A worn-out brake disc makes different noises, but either way, it could mean that they need to be replaced. Overheated brake pads make squeaking noises and can be often heard during slow stops. If you hear swishing, howling, or grinding noises, it means that the brake disc pads have gone past their lining limits. If you don't have these replaced, you'll be hearing any of these sounds whenever you hit the brake pedals and you'll sense a slight vibration in the steering wheel.
Grooved brake disc
Study the brake disc; a good one should look clean, smooth, and shiny. If you see deep grooves that appear as parallel lines, it means that the surface of the rotor has been in contact with the pad rivets and this could show extreme wear for a long time. If your brake disc rotor has deep grooves, it can cause brake shimmy or even lock up. You'd also start to hear incessant loud grinding noises when you hit hard on the brake pedal.
Contaminated brake fluid
Lift the hood of your BMW325i and take out the top of the brake master cylinder; be sure to follow the instructions on the manual so that you won't have a hard time. Check the fluid level on the reservoir. Take note that the correct fluid level should be indicated on the cylinder and is in accordance to the one on your manual. Get rid of the rust.

Also, if you start to notice that rust is starting to build up, you can use an oil-based lubricant on the components of the brake disc that don't hit the pads when you're driving.
Be careful when removing the brake disc.
When removing the brake disc, you have to be extra careful because you wouldn't want to cause further damage. Disconnect the brake caliper and mounting bracket from the brake disc. You can spray the wheel assembly with brake parts cleaner and remove the dust buildup by simply using paper towels. Take note that some brake pads contain asbestos, which can cause cancer. When taking out the brake disc, be sure to have a mask on so that you won't be able to inhale any harmful elements. Be careful not to let debris or dust particles to pollute the grease and bearings. Just be extra cautious when taking out the brake disc.
Resurface the brake disc.
The brake disc may be hidden, but it will give you a peace of mind knowing that it's clean and free from dents. You can resurface it to correct any imperfections that were brought by harsh braking. But, if really don't want a rusty brake disc then it may be about time to have it replaced with a new one.
