What are the ways of eliminating rust from an Acura TL's brake discs?
It shouldn't be a surprise that the Acura's brake discs get rusty since they are located in an area that doesn't see a lot of sun. However, there are several ways of eliminating rust, either by preventing their formation or by removing them. First, clean the rotors regularly with an aerosol-based lubricant. Another option is to coat the areas that don't come into contact with the brake pads with zinc, cadmium or other rust-inhibiting materials. Third, purchase carbon rotors instead of those made from cast iron. However, this is rather costly and the discs will eventually need replacement again. To remove the rust that's already on the rotors, drive the TL often because the brake pads can remove the thin surface rust that forms on the pads daily. If there's an excessive build-up of rust, go to an empty lot, drive slowly, and slam on the brakes to remove them more.
Why do some Acura TL drivers still experience brake vibration even after they have replaced the brake pads and rotors?
There are two possible reasons why some Acura drivers continue to experience a rough deceleration due to a pulsing sensation through the brake pedal and a shaking of the steering wheel. The first is that the front and/or rear brake pads have caused a variation in their brake discs' thickness. A technical service bulletin has been put out recommending that the discs must be refinished and the pads replaced. If the vibrations persist after a test drive, then both the discs and pads need to be replaced again. The second reason is that the front tires can sometimes warp the rotors when they are bolted on without using torque sticks. This then causes a bent hub assembly or an uneven flat spot on the rim that mounts to the rotors.
How can Acura TL owners prevent braking vibrations after they have already replaced the brake pads and rotors?
Acura owners should observe these driving rules according to the number of miles they've driven their cars since replacing the brake discs and pads. For the first 100 miles, they should not use the emergency brakes or cause the brakes to overhead. They should simply apply brake power softly and slowly. For the next 200 miles, they can add more power to the brake pedal but they should still continue to prevent overheating and emergency braking. From 300 to 500 miles after their replacement, they can apply their usual brake power and use emergency braking but still avoid overheating. After 500 miles, the danger of replacing the discs and pads too soon after a previous repair should be gone.
