To say that a lot of things are happening at the Ford headquarters is a huge understatement.

Just a couple of weeks after the automaker finally debuted the long-awaited 2021 Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport, a photo of another upcoming model was leaked to the public—the Maverick pickup.

In particular, a photo of the model’s tailgate made its rounds online, essentially confirming the arrival of a new truck.

The Maverick nameplate is not entirely new, however, especially among loyal Ford customers. But the soon-to-arrive edition will not be a revival of the original coupe that was released in the 1970s. Instead, it is going to be a compact pickup truck, something that has not been seen from the Blue Oval lineup or any other brand in the United States.

Online publication Motor1 was the first to publish the leaked tailgate photo. In the image, it shows a small tailgate brandishing the “Maverick” name. Right above the badge is an oval-shaped cutout where the Ford emblem is presumed to be placed.

As with other leaked photos from unconfirmed products, Ford declined to comment on its veracity. But even without a confirmation, the photo does not seem far-fetched.

In the last few months, Ford was the subject of several rumors about an upcoming model that will be given the Maverick nameplate, especially after it was revealed to have filed a trademark for the name.

In 2018, the company was also reported to be studying the idea of building a truck with a unibody architecture. Some dealerships claimed they were told about this concept and that it was met with a positive response.

If the Maverick turns out to be a real upcoming product from Ford, it will reportedly be one of two entry-level vehicles from the brand. The compact truck is expected to get a starting price under $20,000 and positioned next to the Ecosport’s replacement.

The Ford Maverick is believed to make its official debut sometime in 2021.
