Nissan is recalling Titan pickup trucks from the 2020 model year over reports of engine stalling caused by an electrical short. The recall affects a total of 7,583 units, but the automaker reassured customers that the fix is already available.
According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety, there is a possibility for the truck’s engine to stall while it is in motion, increasing the risk of a crash. Moreover, drivers may not be able to restart the pickup if the engine stalls.
The automaker said the problem is caused by exposed wire in the engine harness. When the exposed wire makes contact with another wire in the system, an electrical short may occur. According to Nissan, there are no warning signs owners could watch out for, and that the problem may also cause issues with the vehicle’s transmission.
Nissan, however, clarified that it is not aware of any crashes that may have been caused by the problem. Furthermore, it said the issue does not affect any other model in the Nissan and Infiniti lineup.
Owners of the affected pickups are advised to bring their vehicles to a Nissan service center where technicians will conduct an inspection of the wiring harness. If a damage is identified, the truck will be given a new harness at no expense to the customers. If there is no damage, a technician will reassemble the harness to make sure no wires are exposed and that other components are in great condition.
Nissan will begin sending recall notifications to customers on January 27.
