As if the truck segment in the United States is not competitive and saturated enough, Ford is revealed to be launching a pickup truck based on the 2021 Bronco SUV. This model is expected to compete with the newcomer, Jeep Gladiator.
The company is reportedly scheduled to start production of the pickup in July 2024, while design and engineering have begun just a few months after the Gladiator was released.
The expected release date for the Bronco-based truck is within the lifecycle of the next-generation Bronco, which will be based on the Ford Ranger and set for release in 2021 to compete against the Jeep Wrangler.
However, there are also reports saying that a 2022 launch for the upcoming Ranger-based Bronco is possible, especially with the Ranger Raptor and 2021 Ford Courier also slated for release soon. Either way, it just shows how tight competition in the market is going to get based on Ford models alone.
The Bronco-based pickup truck will be available as a four-door double cab and is likely to be similar to the old Explorer SporTrac. This means that a shorter bed is possible in addition to other features, including a 3-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, a hybrid powertrain, cloth roof, and removable doors.
Meanwhile, the 2021 Bronco is likely going to be built on the bones of the next-generation Ranger. Both models are also going to be pieced together at the Wayne Assembly Plant in Michigan.
