In light of the World Health Organization’s recommendation for cities and states to practice social distancing, several automakers took it upon themselves to promote the measure in their own way.
Social distancing in the United States means people should not form or join groups of more than 10 people, avoid unnecessary travel, and consider canceling all social visits. The federal guidelines are currently in place in the country and will be in effect until April 30.
In an effort to promote social distancing, car manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz are using their platforms to reach out to people.
Volkswagen and Audi have released videos promoting the measure earlier in March, and Mercedes-Benz is now joining the two companies with a slightly similar move. The German automaker has updated its official global Facebook channel with a revised version of its logo.
The company’s logo has a three-pointed star and a ring that surrounds it. But in the specially revised version of the emblem, Mercedes is putting additional space between the elements. The new logo has since gathered over a 100,000 reactions on Facebook as well as thousands of comments from users.
“If we do things together well, almost perfectly, we could get in the range of 100,000 to 200,000 fatalities,” Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House’s coronavirus response coordinator said in an interview with NBC’s Today show.
