The long wait is over for Hummer fans as GMC finally launches the revived version of the “supertruck.”
During the October 22 launch, GMC unveiled the upcoming 2022 model that will banner the Hummer sub-brand. It comes as a four-door pickup equipped with an engine that delivers up to 1,000 horsepower and up to 1,000 lb-ft of torque.
The electric truck reportedly goes from zero to 60 mph in three seconds and also features 35-inch tall tires, four-wheel steering, and removable roof panels. It has a range of 350 miles and comes with an 800-volt DC fast charger that can boost the range by another 100 miles in 10 minutes.
The reborn Hummer sports three running lights on both ends, making off-roading in the dark safe and manageable. It also features 35-inch-tall 305/70R-17 Goodyear Wrangler All Territory MTs as standard equipment, but customers have the option to get 37s at the dealer.
The four-wheel steering setup allows the driver to point the rear tires opposite the fronts by up to 10 degrees, making a 37.1-foot turning circle possible. It also enables tire alignment to launch the Hummer’s Crab mode. Meanwhile, the four-wheel independent suspension adds 13 inches of travel or 8 inches of height adjustability with the optional air suspension.
The lone Hummer EV model introduced at the launch is Edition 1, which has a starting price of $112,595. All units will be built with a three-motor setup—one motor on the front axle and two on the rear.
General Motors has not released other details about the new Hummer EV such as its weight, payload, or towing numbers. But it is expected to do so in the next few months as production for the model approaches.
