Nissan is giving its well-loved Frontier a new engine for 2020. But this also means the model is getting a significantly higher base price compared to the outgoing generation.
The Japanese automaker just released a new pricing scheme for the improved 2020 Nissan Frontier that will now be powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine instead of the old 2.5-liter four-cylinder base engine.
With the pickup being a V6-only model, its starting price now starts at $27,885 inclusive of the $1,095 destination charge. It may not be much for a reliable truck, but it’s definitely a huge jump from the $20,385 starting price for the 2019 edition.
But is a new engine really worth the price increase?
Considering the rig will now only be offered with a V6 engine, it means Nissan will also have to go with an automatic transmission to pair it with. The manual transmission was one of the reasons why the automaker managed to keep the cost down for the previous Frontier generation.
Given the new pricing scheme, other variants are also expected to get a price increase. A King Cab SV now has a starting price of $28,765, while a four-door S trim with a crew cab is available at $28,995. A Frontier S crew cab 4×4, on the other hand, adds $3,390 to its price tag.
For customers who prefer choosing between the short wheelbase and long wheelbases, the price ranges from $28,995 to $32,505.
Among the higher trims, the Frontier SV 4×4 has a starting price of $33,085, while the range-topping Pro-4X is available for $38,585.
