Keeping your engine intact and stable is a must for every vehicle. But as you add more miles to it, wear and tear slowly creep in. As part of your task as a responsible car owner, it is a must that you watch out for it. And when the time comes, you should be prepared to replace certain components to keep everyone safe. The same concern applies to your vehicle’s engine mounts. These small but essential components keep your engine secure in the engine bay. With all the movement, power, and torque that the engine can produce, a loosely mounted engine can come shooting out from your hood. That’s a very nasty scene. But we’re just exaggerating. You can avoid problems like that by following the recommended preventive maintenance steps for you vehicle. To keep unwanted rattles and movements within the engine bay, there are products like the Anchor engine torque mount. We tested it on our Toyota Camry. Here’s what we found out:

Pros
- We take pride in properly maintaining our Toyota Camry. But since it already clocked in significantly high miles, we opted to look for possible alternatives that can replace the OE Toyota engine torque mount. We were after a part that could offer the same, or even better, stability for our engine. After installing the Anchor engine torque mount, the engine became more docile. Vibration was more restricted and the engine was kept almost in place even at high revs.
Cons
- The Anchor engine torque mount was designed as an OEM replacement. While this is just right for stock vehicles, using it in highly modified vehicles might not yield the similar support. We doubt it. We’re very sorry to tuners. This is not the part for you.
- With soft OE-based mounts, we still couldn’t avoid drive line lash. As we mashed the gas pedal harder, some of the engine’s power was wasted because the mounts absorbed it. How we wish that a stiffer engine torque mount was within an arm’s reach to improve our vehicle’s power delivery. But then again, we drove a stock Camry.
Recommendation
The Anchor engine torque mount is a viable replacement for your stock vehicle applications. However, if you have plans of boosting your engine further, you should consider sturdier aftermarket options.
