Customer Guides

Wiring harnesses are critical in transmitting power or data to and from the car’s various electronic devices; so when they do give out, they need to be replaced or else these devices, which include the ECU and fuel/air ration sensors, will also start to fail.

OEM wiring harnesses are very easy to find nowadays, but there are also aftermarket wiring harnesses that comply with or even exceed OEM specifications with added performance and functionality. One such aftermarket harness is the AEM wiring harness. A specialist in performance electronics, AEM offers different wiring harness models and configurations to make the process of wiring the various electronics of the vehicle easier. In this review, we checked several models of AEM harnesses to see if they are up to the task.

Features

  • Color-coded wires with bundled identifiers
  • Silk-screened functions on wire for easy identification
  • Pre-wired wideband connectors for AEM net, CAN, RS-232 Serial and USB
  • Weather-resistant remote mount USB and connectors with plug and wire seals
  • Includes grounds, power relay and fuse box
  • Limited AEM warranty

The pros

  • Has everything you need in a wire harness. The AEM wiring harness is one of the most comprehensive harness models we’ve seen. From CAN protocol connectors to USBs, AEM’s wiring harness has got you covered. What’s more, the harness also comes with a fuse and power relay, saving us time, effort, and money in the process.
  • Color-coded wires for easy identification. Each wire comes individually wrapped by color-coded insulated sheeting with identifiers silk-screened onto the surface of the wire, making identification of a particular wire easy. This makes for faster installation, adjustments, and modding.
  • Durable, water-resistant construction. Various plug and wire seals make the wires water-resistant and shield against extreme weather conditions.

The cons

  • The wires are a bit too short. We had to use extenders in order for some of the wires to connect properly.
  • May cause interference when near the coil-pack wires. Make sure that the harness and any of its components are distanced properly.

The verdict

The AEM wiring harness is a good choice for anyone looking for a new harness for their car. It can be used for a wide variety of applications, color-coded for easy installation, and durable enough to last many years of service. It is definitely an ideal choice for ordinary car owners to seasoned tuning enthusiasts alike.
