Customer Guides

The fuel pressure regulator is among those components that don’t fail often. But when it does, you should expect a big loss in fuel pressure and poor supply of fuel in the engine, which isn’t good for the rest of the fuel delivery components. Such condition will cause the fuel pump to work doubly hard and force too much fuel into the injectors, causing them to fail as well. If you don’t want to compromise your fuel delivery system, you shouldn’t gamble on your replacement fuel pressure regulator or you might as well get a reliable rebuild kit.

To help you make a more informed decision, we tested out one of the known rebuild kits out there—the AEM fuel pressure regulator rebuild kit—and here’s what we have to say:

Features

  • Contains diaphragm, o-ring, and three discharge port orifices
  • Each orifice is indicated by three different colors—black for .100”, Silver for .150”, and Gold for .200”
  • Kit contents are all made from heavy-duty materials
  • Includes comprehensive installation and adjustment instructions
  • Legal for use in California for racing vehicles ONLY
  • Proudly USA made

Pros

  • Since this is a kit, we didn’t have to worry about proper fitment and sealing of the diaphragm and the orifice. However, we still made sure to be very careful when removing the old orifice so as not to damage the precision ground surface. Thankfully, we haven’t done any damage to the said surface, so we’re able to achieve excellent diaphragm sealing.
  • Two thumbs up for the AEM fuel regulator’s adjustable or interchangeable discharge port, which allows us to alter the regulator’s return volume to match the output of our ride’s fuel pump.
  • We particularly love that the three orifices come in different colors. They made it easy for us to pinpoint which one is right for our fuel requirements, even without actually measuring the orifice.
  • Everything about this DIY job went smoothly, all thanks to the very helpful installation guide, which provided us with very detailed steps on how to rebuild the fuel pressure regulator using the kit. After the rebuild, the regulator went back to its normal state.

Cons

  • In California, it can be used only for vehicles on the racetrack and not for those that are driven on public highways. Residents of the said state must keep this in mind before deciding to use this rebuild kit in their ride.
  • It comes with AEM’s limited warranty—better warranty coverage would have been great.

Our final thought

This product would be worth your while and money as it lets you set the regulator’s return volume depending on the fuel pump output—a feature not many rebuild kits offer. Though there can be legality issues on its use in California, you won’t have any problem using it in other states.
